Stoddard County officials promise to improve property tax withholdings, agreements with non profits after audit findings

State Auditor Nicole Galloway his issued her office’s audit of Stoddard County. The county received a rating of “good,” an improvement from the “fair” rating given by the previous state audit in March 2018. “I’m encouraged that Stoddard County officials indicated they plan to implement, or have implemented, the audit’s recommendations and that there was overall improvement from the previous review done by my office in 2018,” Galloway said...

Work at Sikeston intersection to begin soon

Work will begin in the next few weeks to improve the intersection at Main and Malone in Sikeston. The Missouri Department of Transportation was set to begin the first phase of work at Highway 61 (Main) and Malone Avenue this week, but Matt Wilkerson, area engineer for MoDOT, said that due to a couple snags, the work will begin in a week or two, depending on the weather...

Thursday’s winter storm brought 2 to 4 inches of snow, strong winds and frigid temperatures to the area, even causing power outages in some places. The extreme cold remained in Southeast Missouri with Friday’s high near 11 degrees with wind chill values as low as -21 and Saturday’s high near 22 with wind chill values as low as -6.
