Man steals local truck and drives it to court

On the afternoon of Jan. 11 an officer took a report about a stolen farm truck.

The truck was actually found by the owner on a parking lot on Main Street before he knew it had been stolen. After reviewing camera footage and talking to witnesses, officers identified a suspect and learned that he was already in jail on separate charges.

They interviewed the man in the Mississippi County Jail and he confessed to stealing the truck on the morning of Jan. 9. He said he took it to Scott County, then parked it on Main Street on the morning of Jan. 11 while he went to court. The man said he was arrested at court on several outstanding warrants so was not able to retrieve the truck.

He was charged with stealing and tampering with a motor vehicle.
