Shooting in area of Blades Drive under investigation

NEW MADRID, Mo. - Just after 6 p.m. Feb. 8, officers responded to the area of Blades Drive where a 911 caller said several people were shooting at each other.

When officers arrived, they found that an apartment building had been hit by several bullets and there several shell casings on the ground. Throughout the night officers collected evidence at the scene and interviewed witnesses. Also four handguns were seized as evidence.

A New Madrid woman was arrested for first degree assault and armed criminal action. She is currently in the Mississippi County Jail with no bond.

On the night of Feb. 13, the Lilbourn and New Madrid Fire Departments were paged to an address in the 300 block of Lewis Street in Lilbourn for a structure fire.

The water pipes under the house had frozen and the residents were attempting to thaw them with a portable heater when the fire started. Firefighters worked for several hours to contain the fire and keep it from spreading, but it appeared the house was a total loss.
