Tuesday, March 2, 2021

NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of Feb. 22, officers responded to an address in the 600 block of Mott Street in reference to a burglary in progress.

A woman reported that her estranged boyfriend was attempting to force his way into her house. By the time officers arrived the man had left, but the door facing was broken and it was clear the man had partially made it through the door.

A short time later New Madrid officers and New Madrid County deputies found the suspect in Lilbourn and he was taken into custody without incident. He was later charged with first degree burglary.

On the morning of Feb. 25, officers responded to the 700 block of Mott Street for a possible disturbance. People in the neighborhood heard a woman screaming inside the house, but no one would come to the door.

Due to the history of domestic violence at the house, officers forced entry to check the woman’s well-being. The victim was in the living room with blood on her face and her son, the suspect, was in the bedroom.

The man was placed under arrest for second degree domestic assault and he also had an outstanding warrant for probation violation.
