Simmons dedicated career to people of New Madrid
On the morning of March 29, we learned of the passing of David Simmons, a retired police officer with the city of New Madrid.
David devoted over 30 years to the city, working the majority of that time on night shift. In addition, he served as the interim police chief from 2013-2014 after the retirement of Chief Claude McFerren until the time I started in April of 2014.
He is survived by his wife and son, and will be missed greatly by all of us at the police department.
I first came to know David when I went to work for the city in August of 2013 and I was amazed at the amount of knowledge he had gained over 30 years in law enforcement; he had completely dedicated his career to the people of New Madrid, but few saw him because for decades he only worked midnights.
The people of New Madrid owe him a debt of gratitude for his years of service, and his legacy lives on through his influence on the police department and how we operate today.
