Wednesday, April 7, 2021
On the morning of March 30, a Portageville officer was transporting a prisoner to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department. The prisoner became combative and requested an ambulance, so the officer pulled in to the New Madrid Police Department parking lot to call an ambulance.
While waiting on the ambulance the prisoner, who was handcuffed behind his back, began hitting the windshield with his head and broke it. He was eventually treated for his original complaint and transported to jail.
The prisoner was later charged with property damage on top of his original charges.
On the morning of April 3, an officer was on patrol in the 800 block of St. Anne Street when he saw a man, who had with several warrants, standing outside a house. When the officer got out of his patrol car, the man ran behind the house and continued running north.
The officer chased the man and attempted to stop him with a Taser, but the Taser malfunctioned. Within another 100 feet the officer tackled the suspect and placed him in handcuffs.
The man was wanted for several felony warrants out of Mississippi County and was later charged with resisting arrest in New Madrid County.
