Juveniles caught after vandalizing plants on Main Street
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of May 3, an officer took a report about vandalism on Main Street.
The botanical society had put plants in all of the planters on Main Street earlier in the day, and by late in the afternoon someone had pulled out all of the plants and thrown them in the street.
After checking surveillance cameras at local businesses, the officer found video of several juveniles pulling plants from the planters and throwing them at each other. Three children were identified from the video and the matter was turned over to the New Madrid County Juvenile Office.
On the morning of May 4, officers were called to a local clinic for disorderly conduct.
When they arrived they found that a man had stripped off all of his clothes and was screaming that he was burning. For their own safety, the employees of the clinic had taken everyone from the waiting room and locked the man in the lobby until officers arrived.
The officers attempted to keep the man calm until an ambulance arrived, but the his erratic behavior continued. When they attempted to detain the man, he fought with the officers until they were able to get him handcuffed on the ground.
The subject, who said he had recently used methamphetamine, was transported by ambulance due to his altered mental status.
