Man jailed for domestic assault after running from officers
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On May 8, a woman came to the police department to report that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. She stated that he had pushed her down, punched her and stole her cell phone before running from their house.
An officer took the woman’s statement and completed a report. Later in the day, the officer went to a house on Pinnell Lane where he found the suspect.
The man ran out the back door of the house and kept running north toward Dawson Road. After a foot pursuit through several yards, the officer caught the man in the 200 block of Missouri Street.
In addition to pending domestic assault charges, he also had several outstanding felony warrants for his arrest. The man was placed under arrest and transported to the Mississippi County Jail.
On the afternoon of May 11, officers went to a house on Mill Street to investigate possible drug activity. They knocked on the door and made contact with the resident who gave them permission to search the house.
In a drawer in the resident’s bedroom an officer found a small amount of methamphetamine.
The woman was placed under arrest and transported to the Mississippi County Jail awaiting formal charges for drug possession.
