Man jailed on harassment charges; held with no bond
Tuesday, July 13, 2021
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On June 29, officers responded to a business on Main Street for a subject who was making threats toward the employees.
The man indicated that if he did not get money from them that he thought he was owed, he would do physical harm to someone there. He then told them that if he saw a particular police officer, calling the officer by name, he would shoot him in the head.
The man was located by the police a short time later near Main and Virginia streets. He was placed under arrest and later charged with first degree harassment with no bond until his first court appearance.
On the afternoon of July 2, officers responded to a traffic crash on St. Bridget where a car had reportedly run into a house. When they arrived on the scene they found that the car’s driver was pulling into the driveway and had accelerated instead of stopped, crashing the car through the front of the house.
After speaking with several people there, it became clear that a 10-year-old juvenile was driving the car when the crash occurred. The juvenile had been given permission to drive the car by the vehicle’s owner, who was in the passenger seat at the time of the wreck.
The child was transported to the hospital with injuries and the vehicle’s owner was placed under arrest for endangering the welfare of a child.
