Video footage leads to felony charges
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On July 16, officers responded to the 400 block of Vandenvender in reference to a disturbance in progress.
When they arrived they couldn’t find anyone fighting, but several people pointed them to an apartment in the complex. They made contact with the man and woman who live there and although they could tell the woman was visibly shaken, she repeatedly said that nothing happened.
Over the next couple days, the officers obtained surveillance footage from the area and found video of the man choking the woman. He then dragged her down the sidewalk into the apartment.
A warrant for the man’s arrest was signed by the judge and he was arrested on felony domestic assault charges on July 21.
On the afternoon of July 23, officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Riverside Drive. When they arrived they made contact with a man and woman and learned the man did not live at the house.
No assault occurred, but the man was eventually placed under arrest for trespassing.
While searching the man after his arrest, the officer found two syringes in the man’s pocket that tested positive for methamphetamine along with several different prescription medications.
The man was transported to the Mississippi County Jail on charges of trespassing and possession of a controlled substance.
