Mother jailed after leaving child at store unattended
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the night of July 29, a teenage girl walked into the lobby of the Sheriff’s Department and said she had been assaulted by her mother.
The girl had visible injuries to her mouth and said her mother had hit her in the face with a piece of wood from a broken bed. The girl’s mother showed up a short time later and denied the allegations.
Officers went to the woman’s house and found that the rest of her children had been left home alone for some time. The officers took the children into protective custody and contacted the Missouri Children’s Division.
At the same time, a deputy with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office made contact with the officer here and said that the suspect had dropped off one of her children at a Break Time gas station in Scott County. Surveillance footage showed the woman putting the child out of the car and leaving the gas station.
She was later placed under arrest in Scott County when she returned to the store.
In the early morning hours of August 1, officers responded to an apartment on Blades Drive for an assault.
When they arrived they found a woman with severe cuts to her face and chest where someone had cut her with a box cutter. The suspect was still at the apartment when police arrived and she was placed under arrest for first degree assault.
The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
