Threats lead to man jailed on harassment charge
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of Aug. 22, an officer responded to the area of Edwards Drive where a man was threatening several people.
When the officer arrived, a man was standing in the parking lot screaming at several women.
When he told the man to stop yelling and put his hands behind his back, the man initially refused. When told again to put his hands behind his back, the man complied and was handcuffed until the officer could find out what was going on.
The officer talked to several witnesses at the scene who said the man thought a relative of his lived in the complex. They said he had made direct threats to several people, and threatened to kill a woman in the group.
The officer then placed the man under arrest for first degree harassment and transported him to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department for booking.
Over the last week we have taken two reports of stolen bicycles, one a blue mountain bike and the other a purple and pink girl’s bicycle.
Bicycle thefts are a fairly common occurrence but aren’t often reported. If possible bicycles should be stored out of public view or locked up, or at least left in a well-lighted area on private property.
If you have a bicycle stolen from your yard, contact the police department at (573)748-5901.
