One jailed for resisting arrest
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the morning of September 24, deputies with the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department and an officer from the Police Department were serving a civil order in the 400 block of Vandenvender Street in New Madrid.
While they were serving the order a man walked across from Femmer Drive and confronted the police, then began questioning them about why they were there. The city officer told the man several times that he was interfering with a police matter and that he needed to leave.
The man walked back toward his house and started screaming obscenities at the officers. At that point the city officer confronted the man on Femmer Drive and told him he was under arrest.
The man resisted the officer and they began fighting, causing minor damage to the side of a police car. During the fight, a deputy deployed his Taser striking the man in the side.
The suspect was handcuffed and transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department for booking on charges of obstructing a government operation and resisting arrest.
