One arrested after shots fired in Howardville

Tuesday, September 14, 2021

NEW MADRID, Mo. - At around noon Sept. 1, New Madrid County deputies responded to Howardville, Mo., where a shooting had just taken place.

The 911 caller said a man in a blue Ford Mustang had fired several shots at someone in another car. The assailant then fled the scene.

A few minutes later a New Madrid officer saw the vehicle coming into the city on Highway 61 near the water tower on the south end of town. The officer stopped the car and got the driver out at gunpoint, then detained him until deputies arrived.

A gun was found in the car during a search. The driver was later arrested and charged with first degree assault.

On the afternoon of Sept. 8, officers responded to a house on Waters Street where a man had been assaulted.

On the way to the call, the suspect was found on Main Street walking back toward his house. He was detained by one officer while the other went and spoke with the victim.

The suspect was placed under arrest for assault and transported to the sheriff’s department for booking. He was later released for medical reasons, but arrested the next day when a warrant with no bond was issued by a judge for the assault.
