One arrested, one still at large after burglary
NEW MADRID, Mo. - In the early morning hours of Oct. 14, officers responded to the 400 block of Vandenvender for a burglary.
The homeowner saw a truck leaving his house when he came home from work. When he got home, he found that the house had been broken into and several items had been taken.
Officers were able to obtain surveillance footage of a truck in the area and obtain arrest warrants for a man and woman.
New Madrid County Deputies found the suspect vehicle parked at a house in Marston on Oct. 15. The truck was towed and searched after a search warrant was obtained. Several of the stolen items were found in the truck.
The female suspect was taken into custody on Oct. 16 but the male suspect is still at large.
In the early morning hours of Oct. 18, the New Madrid Fire Department responded to a house fire at the same residence where the burglary had taken place. A camper in the yard caught on fire and it quickly spread to the house; the camper was a total loss and the house sustained moderate damage.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the fire and the fact that there was no power to the camper, the state fire marshal was contacted and responded to investigate. At this time the investigation is ongoing.
