Incident was mutual fight, not an assault
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of Nov. 10, an officer responded to an apartment on Byrd Drive in reference to an assault that occurred on Russell Street.
The complainant said she was on private property at the intersection of Russell and Riley streets. She said she was talking to someone when she was approached by another woman and hit from behind, knocked to the ground. The victim said the woman then pulled her hair and hit her several times.
The officer talked to the other party involved who said the incident was not an assault but a mutual fight. The officer issued her a summons to appear in city court.
On the night of Nov. 19, an officer responded to the 800 block of Hunter Street in reference to an assault.
The officer found a man standing in the street with wounds on his head and acting erratically. He said three people, two that he knew and one that he didn’t, got out of a truck and assaulted him.
The man said he wanted to pursue charges against the subject he could not identify. The investigation is ongoing.
