New Madrid officer testifies at murder trial
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the night of Dec. 1, officers responded to an address on Kingshighway for an assault.
A man at the address said his brother had assaulted him, then grabbed a knife and threatened to kill him with it. The officers found the man’s brother in a bedroom of the house and he was arrested without incident.
The assailant was transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department on charges of domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
On Thursday Dec. 9, Sgt. John Dubois testified in the murder trial of Eliot Bonner, accused of killing Monica Keenlance on Oct. 31, 2018, at the Marston rest area.
Even though the crime was outside the city limits of New Madrid, Sgt. Dubois provided mutual aid and was the first officer on-scene of the killing. He opened the trial with his testimony.
Bonner was ultimately found guilty of second degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He has yet to be sentenced but faces a maximum of 70 years in prison.
