Woman arrested for warrants; one jailed in shooting
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the night of Jan. 4, an officer responded to an apartment on Broughton Drive in reference to an ongoing dispute between two people.
The complainant said she had been followed home from Sikeston by a woman she has had problems with in the past and she just wanted the woman to leave her alone.
The officer then went to Blades Drive to speak with the other party involved. After speaking with her, he found that she had warrants for her arrest out of Dunklin County for endangering the welfare of a child, assault and property damage.
When the warrants were confirmed, she was placed under arrest and transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department for booking.
At around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10, officers responded to the area of St. Lucy and Ramsey Lane where it was reported that someone had been shot.
When officers arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, who was transported by ambulance in critical condition. Several witnesses were found at the scene and a suspect was identified almost immediately.
The suspect turned himself in later that night and also provided the gun used in the shooting.
He is currently being held in the Mississippi County Jail on charges of first degree assault (the equivalent of attempted murder) and armed criminal action.
