Man is arrested for breaking into residence

Tuesday, February 8, 2022

NEW MADRID, Mo. - On Jan. 31, officers responded to a house on Vandenvender for a reported break-in.

The homeowner had been gone for a couple days and when she returned she found that someone had broken a window and entered the house. Several items were missing and the house had been ransacked.

Officers found distinctive footprints at the scene that they believed belonged to the suspect. In addition, they collected blood samples from the windowsill and inside the house where it appeared the suspect cut himself entering the house.

A few hours later, an officer on patrol in the area of Vandenvender and Hunter saw a subject walking in the area. The man was wearing shoes similar to those believed to have left the footprint, so the officer stopped and made contact with him.

The officer looked at the soles of the man’s shoes and they were an exact match to those at the burglary scene. In addition, when the man took off his gloves he had cuts on his right hand consistent with having been cut by broken glass.

At that point, he was placed under arrest for burglary and transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department for booking. A search warrant was later obtained for the man’s DNA and will be sent to the lab for comparison to the sample taken from the blood at the scene.
