Dumpster diver found
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the night of March 22, officers responded to Highway 61 near Mill Street for a report of two white males, one wearing a camouflage jacket, looking in the windows of closed businesses.
The officers found men matching that description walking near Highway 61 and Pinnell Street and made contact with them. They admitted to being on property of several closed businesses.
While searching one of the men an officer found a small amount of methamphetamine. The man was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department for booking. The suspect was already out on bond for burglary prompting the court to revoke that bond.
On March 24, officers reviewed video from a local business where a man was on the property at around 5:30 that morning.
The man is seen wandering the property, then gets in a dumpster and starts throwing things from the dumpster onto the ground. He takes several things from the dumpster and leaves the rest on the parking lot of the business.
Later that afternoon officers found the man, who admitted to being on the property and still had several items from the dumpster. He was issued a summons to appear in court on charges of trespassing and littering.
