Two arrested after short pursuit

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of July 3, an officer attempted to stop a car for expired registration near the intersection of Vandenvender and Main streets.

The driver of the car first pulled into Femmer Drive, then got back on Vandenvender and continued east. The driver ran several stop signs and finally pulled into the yard of a house in the 200 block of Pinnell Lane.

The driver got out of the car and was taken into custody for resisting arrest by flight. The passenger in the car had an active warrant and was also placed under arrest.

On the afternoon of July 2, the fire department was called to a vacant apartment on Blades Drive for a structure fire.

When the first firefighter arrived, he found there was a fire in the corner of the living room and emptied a fire extinguisher into the room. That bought enough time for the fire truck to arrive and extinguish the rest of the fire.

The living area and kitchen sustained smoke and water damage, but the fire didn’t spread past living room and no other apartments were damaged.
