Routine traffic stop leads to arrest

Wednesday, August 3, 2022

NEW MADRID, Mo. — On the afternoon of Aug. 8, an officer stopped a car with expired tags on Kingshighway near Scott Street. The driver’s license was revoked and also there were warrants for his arrest out of Sikeston and Scott City.

He was placed under arrest and transported to Sikeston Department of Public Safety for processing on their warrant. In addition, several items of evidence possibly related to recent break-ins were seized from the car to be sent to the SEMO Crime Lab for tool mark analysis.

Over the last week, several tickets were issued for illegal dumping at the city’s limb dump near the wastewater lagoon on the other side of the levee.

The city dump is ONLY for grass clippings, limbs and other yard waste. It is illegal to dump trash, mattresses, tires or anything else at the site that is not yard waste.

If the items won’t fit in blue trashcans provided by the city, then you must make other arrangements to dispose of them legally.

A few people were given the opportunity to clean up what they dumped, but moving forward officers are required to write citations.
