Suspect identified after shooting incident Saturday morning
NEW MADRID, Mo. - In the early morning hours of Aug. 13, officers responded to a parking lot on Dawson Road for a report of shots fired.
When the first officer arrived, most of the people had left and a witness said a man in an SUV fired several shots into the air. Shell casings were collected at the scene, and the next day an officer found a SUV matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle.
The vehicle had a spent shell casing stuck to one of the windshield wipers and the casing was a match to the ones collected at the scene. The officer received a search warrant to search the car and more evidence was found inside.
At this time, a suspect has been identified and criminal charges are pending.
In the early morning hours of Aug. 4 an officer responded to a mutual aid request on State Highway U just outside the city limits. The caller said a man was breaking the windows out of the house and trying to get inside.
When the officer arrived, he took the man into custody without incident and turned him over to a New Madrid County deputy a short time later. When leaving the city limits for a mutual aid request, the officer on duty makes arrangements for someone off-duty to cover calls in the city while he or she is outside the city limits. This ensures that we can answer mutual aid requests but still handle any calls that come in.
