Man armed with crossbow taken into custody after brief standoff with police
NEW MADRID, Mo. — On the morning of Dec.6, officers responded to an address in New Madrid for a fight in progress. The caller said that one man was armed with a crossbow and threatened to shoot the first officer to arrive.
As officers pulled up to the house, they saw the man put the crossbow in a truck then stand next to the open truck door. The man had assaulted a family member before the police arrived and he repeatedly told officers that he was not going back to prison.
At one point he told them he does have a crossbow but did not want to use it. He repeated that he was not going back to prison.
Finally, one of the officers Tased the man and he was handcuffed without further incident. He was transported to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department for booking and later charged with felony assault and resisting arrest.
The morning of Dec. 11, an officer took a report about an air compressor being stolen from the back of a truck overnight. Officers are speaking with residents and checking cameras in the area, but have not identified a suspect.
