Local police on patrol for neighborhood prowlers

Wednesday, March 29, 2023

NEW MADRID, Mo. - Over the last few weeks, we have taken several reports about thefts occurring late at night from people’s yards and carports.

On the week of March 15, a woman said she saw a man on a bicycle in her driveway on St. Virginia Street at around 4 o’clock in the morning. Nothing had been stolen, but the man was looking through things on her patio.

On March 19, an officer took a report on Mitchell Street about a theft from under a carport. The suspect on surveillance camera was a white male on a bicycle and looked like the same person from St. Virginia Street a few nights before.

We have also taken several reports about stolen bicycles over the last couple weeks and believe the same person may be involved.

If you seen anyone around your house or even walking down the street in the late night or early morning hours and think it is suspicious, please call the police at (573)748-5901. Prowlers who are trespassing late at night usually work their way up to a burglary or large theft, and officers are patrolling residential areas every night to deter illegal activity.
