Department presents ninth scholarship to New Madrid County Central grad
Wednesday, May 17, 2023
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the night of May 15, I attended New Madrid County Central’s awards ceremony to present the New Madrid Police Department Scholarship for the ninth year in a row. In 2015 we began giving the $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from NMCC, with special emphasis on those who would be seeking a degree in criminal justice or some other public service field.
This year, our scholarship was presented to Drew Howell of New Madrid. Drew, who is the son of Richard and Rachel Howell of New Madrid, maintained a 4.236 cumulative GPA and is involved with numerous clubs and extracurricular activities. In the fall, he will attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in aviation, with the goal of attaining a commercial pilot’s license.
We should be doing everything we can to help foster professional growth among our local high school seniors, whether they will be working locally or moving away to continue their education or career. Congratulations to Drew Howell and the rest of NMCC’s 2023 graduates.
