Teens arrested for tampering with vehicle
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of May 23, officers responded to the area of Mitchell Street and Broughton Drive for a disturbance.
Two women had gotten in a fight in the Ramey’s parking lot and one of the women was following the other down the street toward her house. The victim said she stopped her car to call the police and when she did, the suspect ran up to the car with a knife yelling for her to get out.
Surveillance footage from the area corroborated the victim’s statement and the suspect was placed under arrest for unlawful use of a weapon.
Also on the afternoon of May 23, officers were called to a mechanic shop on US Highway 61 for a break-in.
The owner of the shop had left to run errands and when he returned, he found a man and woman under the hood of one of the cars on his property. When he confronted them, they ran north toward Ramsey Lane until they were out of sight.
Surveillance camera footage from the area showed a clear picture of both suspects, and the next morning officers took a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old female into custody for burglary and tampering with a motor vehicle.
Neither suspect was from the area and both were turned over to the New Madrid County Juvenile Office.
