Man armed with shotgun arrested

NEW MADRID, Mo. — On the afternoon of June 10, officers responded to St. Anne Lane for reports of a man making threats while armed with a gun.

When officers arrived, they found the man in the front yard of his home and he had laid a shotgun in the back of a vehicle. A woman at the home said the man was upset and had been walking around in the front yard saying that no one was leaving the property while brandishing the gun.

Due to the fact that the man was making threatening statements while holding a gun, he was placed under arrest and the gun was seized. He was later charged with second degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.

In the early morning hours of June 17, the police and fire departments responded to Brush Prairie Road for a vehicle fire that was threatening a house. The fire department got to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire, but the car was a total loss and there was extensive damage to the side of the house.

The state fire marshal’s office was called to investigate and the fire was ruled an arson; a short time later, officers arrested a man on Riley Street for setting the fire. He was later charged with knowingly burning, which is the charge for deliberately setting fire to anything that is not an inhabitable structure, and given a $15,000 bond.
