Charges are pending after stolen tool found
NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of Nov. 2, officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 61 for a traffic offense. When they approached the car, they found that the driver had a revoked driver’s license and he was placed under arrest.
After searching the inside of the truck, officers located several cordless power tools and checked the serial number on each. One of the tools came back stolen from another state, and the driver may have pending charges for receiving stolen property.
The New Madrid and Lilbourn Fire Departments were paged for a vehicle on fire at 7960 US Highway 61 on the morning of Nov. 6.
Both departments responded and found a small SUV in the parking lot with flames coming from under the hood. New Madrid’s Engine 1 was used and the fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes.
The fire appeared to have been caused by some mechanical failure in the engine compartment.
