Summons issued for business theft

Wednesday, November 29, 2023

NEW MADRID, Mo. - On the afternoon of November 18, an officer responded to a local business for a panic alarm. When he arrived, an employee said a man had just walked out of the business with several items and left in a black car.

The man was identified by the employee and the officer reviewed surveillance footage of the theft. He found that the man was now living in Kennett and contacted the police department there to serve the man with a court summons for theft.

The fire department was paged to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near the 47 mile marker on the afternoon of Nov. 23.

A tractor trailer traveling south in the southbound lane crossed into the median, running over the cable barrier, then crossed over the northbound lane and crashed into the tree line. The driver, who only sustained minor injuries, said he believes he had a diabetic episode and lost consciousness before running off the road.

Due to a significant fuel leak from the damaged truck, Portageville’s Fire Department was contacted for mutual aid to help clean up the spill.
