One hurt in blaze in New Madrid
NEW MADRID, Mo. — In the early morning hours of Jan. 27, police and fire personnel responded to the 300 block of Powell Street for a residential structure fire.
By the time the fire department arrived on scene, the fire had burned through the roof of the house and was threatening the home next door. After spraying water on the house next door to keep the fire from spreading, fire personnel got the fire knocked down and contained to the kitchen of the house.
Portageville and Lilbourn’s Fire Departments were called to assist. Portageville used their ladder truck to put water directly into the kitchen from the hole in the roof. Crews were on scene for several hours.
It appeared that the fire originated from the top of the stove where someone was cooking. One occupant of the house suffered burns and was transported by EMS.
Officers responded to an address on Blades Drive in reference to a domestic assault early Jan. 28..
The victim said she had been choked and punched by her boyfriend, who fled the house prior to the officer’s arrival. The woman had visible wounds on her face.
A probable cause affidavit was sent to New Madrid County Prosecutor Andrew Lawson for prosecution.
