November - a chance to hope for change

Saturday, March 15, 2014

As someone who reads a lot - and I mean a lot - of news on a daily basis, I find myself alternating between frustration and anger, between bewilderment and depression and finally returning to anger.

If I didn't know better I would think much of this daily bewilderment is by design.

Today alone, I read no less than a dozen well-written articles on the outright lies and deception that is named Obamacare.

Who would have imagined that we should have taken Nancy Pelosi at her word when she said we needed to pass the law to find out what was in it.

Through executive orders, this President has changed a law passed by Congress and approved by the highest court in the land.

As a conservative, I wonder how this could be?

And then comes this little tidbit about a highly-regarded professor who actually - hold your seats - wants to jail those who argue against the highly questionable issue of climate change.

Is this still America?

An FBI investigation into some shady dealing by Senate leader Harry Reid was called off by the Eric Holder's Justice Department to the amazement and ire of federal prosecutors.

And again I ask the question, is this still America?

Our Secretary of State has given a Monday deadline to the Russians to stand down in the Ukraine and no one believes this latest "red line" will be upheld other than by some bombastic language and little action.

The economy is being propped artificially by a massive infusion of federal dollars - which we don't actually have - and yet the pundits on the left see this as a sign of recovery.

And they make these claims with a straight face which to me is the most frightening aspect of the discussion.

States from Colorado to Illinois are looking for marijuana sales and expanded casino revenues to push more money into their state coffers.

Give me one sign - just one simple sign - that this train wreck of a federal government is helping the actual producers in this country.

This administration ignores the most obvious of needs and continues to divert our attention to issues like same sex marriage and the minimum wage.

I am not among those radical wild-eyed few who see martial law and black helicopters and revolution as issues in this country.

But I am among those who see a steady erosion of our values and our freedoms and our opportunities.

We may not need to clean house entirely but we sure need to do some housekeeping when it comes to our federal government.

Our best hope and perhaps our only hope is for change come November.
