I am against changing the name of Main Street to Martin Luther King Drive or Boulevard or whatever. Why don't they go down in Sunset and name a street after him down there? I don't think there's ever been a road named John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Why don't you name it John Fitzgerald Kennedy or John Wayne Street if you're gonna change it? Or Elvis Presley Boulevard? While the sun was out Wednesday, several area farmers headed out to their fields, including one north of Sikeston, to begin getting ready for spring planting season. While temperatures are expected to remain cool through the weekend, the National Weather Service is calling for continued dry conditions in Southeast Missouri with a 40 percent chance for snow on Sunday and a chance for rain on Monday.

Construction began Wednesday for a new building to house the New Madrid Immaculate Conception School's pre-kindergarten program. The building, scheduled to be ready this fall, will include two classrooms, a small kitchen area, three offices and bathroom facilities. Shooting suspect charged; victim in critical condition

SIKESTON -- The suspect in the Wednesday shooting of a Sikeston man is facing several felony charges. Chester M. Brown, 29, of Sikeston is charged with one count each of the felonies of first degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a firearm and tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution, according to Missouri Case.net...
