Opinion

Sept. 2 to be remembered as "Goat 101"

Friday, September 9, 2022

I decided that Sept. 2, 2022, will forever be remembered as “Goat 101.”

I visited my brother on his farm and he proclaimed we would be “working” goats. I pondered, “work goats?” I know there is a labor shortage, but we should not fill it with goats. I think they would do okay with laundry they could hang on their horns.

On the contrary, goats can’t do fast food as I am sure that violates the “food code.” My musing was not correct as that morning we spent sorting goats, weighing them and giving them protection from worms.

Like normal articles, I would like to share some lessons I learned.

First, just because they look the same color, they have different personalities. Although there were two white goats, one of them did not like people. On the other hand, one of the goats they called “dog goat” because he begged to be pet.

This reminds me to enjoy God’s creation’s unique diversity.

Continuing with the other white goat (who I assume is named Diva) she loves to stand on a pedestal towering above all the other goats. When I saw her, I thought she looked prideful. It made me think that God hates pride (1 Peter 5:7-8). The next time God convicts me or you about pride we should think to ourselves, “stop being like a diva goat.”

Even though the goats are cute, seem to be intelligent, and very resourceful, they can’t take care of themselves on their own (and that includes Diva Goat). My brother individually checked each goat for worms and gave medicine. I thought that is like God with his children. He loves and takes care of them and all we need to do is trust Him.

Matthew 6:8- “Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”

Make sure you believe him as your Savior and are a child of God. I learned so much on “Goat 101 Day.” My oldest daughter also had a great time as well, but noticed that the male goats are so much more stinky than the females. I hope the Diva Goat did not hear that!
