Now is a time for peace

Friday, December 18, 2020

As I mentioned previously, we have worked really hard since August to produce the Quarantine Christmas Comedy. It is super funny, but more than that it makes you understand where is God in this time. As I began thinking about Christmas being a time of giving, I heard that Sikeston Little Theater has not been able to have many plays this year. Did you know that they are incredible, but it cost a lot of money to serve our community by producing the plays they do? So I asked them if we could come and do the play for them to raise money for 2021. They said yes and this Saturday at 7 p.m. we will be at Sikeston Little Theater doing the play. Please come out and support this important community organization. Tickets are on a donation basis. We will do our part and put on a show that will be incredible and can you do your part as the community and come and donate your money and attend?

Don’t you love the Christmas season? It is filled with lights, decorations, cookies, holiday specials, and friends. I realize this year has been so difficult with COVID, the riots, elections, and the general unrest but the time our Savior was not so different from us. The Jews were living under the evil ruler of the Romans and there was so much division and violence.

In that context, imagine being in the wilderness watching sheep. You aren’t concerned about bathing and you are not invited to walk a run way for your “fashion” sense. Still, you know your place in society... out of it. It is no one but you and your fellow shepherds and your sheep. You don’t even have a home as you are constantly on the move through the hills with your sheep. I imagine one night you go over a hill and then boom, there is an angel that proclaims, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:10-12) Then suddenly many appear and tell you, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2:14) You and your friends race off to see what the angels told you. Obviously the Bible says they found Jesus and could not wait to leave and tell others.

In this 2020, if ever we needed peace, it is now. COVID, riots, election, and all of the other problems cannot stop or end the peace the shepherds found. All of us this year and beyond can find again that peace, the peace that passes all understanding, by looking to Christmas and the baby Jesus! That baby who grew up and conquered death and will return. This Christmas believe again in Jesus.
