Seven truths worthy of an 'amen'

Thursday, April 15, 2021

Often when I preach, I will say, “Amen!” and the congregation will reply, “amen.”

Last Sunday I got an “amen” for something only in the south you would get an “amen” for. Amen means so be it and is a word truly only appropriate for God’s truth.

Well in my excitement I asked for an “amen” after I shared a sermon illustration. Before I share what that item was our church gave the “amen” for, let’s look at real truths worth holding too. These are seven that are worth giving an “amen”:

1 The Bible is the Word of God. “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” (Psalm 119:160)

2 Jesus is fully God and man. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1) “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”(John 1:14)

3. Jesus was sinless. “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:” (1 Peter 2:22)

4. Jesus’ blood was shed for all men. “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:9)

5. Jesus physically rose from the dead. “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:” (John 11:25)

6. Jesus Christ will physical return. “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.” (Revelation 1:7)

7. You only get to heaven through Jesus Christ and not some other way or by your works. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:7)

There are the seven truth that are worth giving an amen for. I trust that in your heart and life you have experienced these truths for yourself. Now what was it that I asked for an amen?

As I mentioned it is something people in the south hold too and love. It is something that if you add bacon, it is definitely one of the most beautiful things to behold (with sweet tea or Mt. Dew). The amen was for a sermon illustration highlighted by…. PULLED PORK.

Can I get an amen?
