Understanding what the Bible says about harvest

Thursday, July 1, 2021

If I had a dollar for every time a farmer told me they were fixing their equipment I would be rich. The fact is, farmers work hard to get everything ready to farm.

I remember the hours my grandpa spent greasing the equipment, mowing pastures, fixing fences, doing the paper work and so many other tasks. I can’t say that my Papa honestly enjoyed the jobs, but he faithfully did them.

The answer is that you have to do this if you want a harvest. For example, all of the cotton farmers I know have been working all year for one reason… the fall harvest.

In the same way, if church is truly going to mean anything to you, you have to be convinced of the reason for doing it. You have to understand what the Bible says about harvest. Let’s look a spiritual harvest coming at the end of the world:

Matthew 13:24-30: “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.”

Tares are plants that look like wheat. They grow and are very difficult to tell the difference until the harvest. Jesus is making the point that one day there will be a harvest of those that are his wheat (or true Christians) and destruction for those that are tares (not true Christians). The wheat or real Christians will be in heaven.

Here is a description of Heaven: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.” (Revelation 21:4-5)

The tares are destined for hell. The following are a description of hell: “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”(Revelation 20:15) and “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

The main point is to make sure you are the wheat and not the tares! Here is how to become the wheat or a real Christian. John 5:24- “He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

Everyone must do more than hear, they must also believe by putting their trust in Jesus. When they believe, that are no longer separated from God and have everlasting life. They begin a new personal relationship with God & can grow as a Child of God. -Romans 10:13- “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Have you called? -Calling Prayer: “Lord, I confess my sins. I believe you died and rose. I believe you are the way to God. I don’t depend on my works but on you. You are my Savior. I call on you to save me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
