Let’s talk about slime. According to pandjtrading.com: “Slime was invented by Mattel Toys in 1976. While creating slime, the toy company wanted the oozing substance to be gross as possible. Thus, slime was first created as a light green material which you could find in a little green trash can.”

Nickelodeon made it popular by having weird games that would result in the participants getting slimed or having slime poured on them.

A week ago, Wednesday at our after-school program I had the opportunity to be “slimed” by the kids. The slime slowly oozed over my head and upper body to where I was not able to even open my eyes. It took about an hour to wash off all of the slime from my body.

Even that evening when I was teaching the Bible a little piece of remaining slime came off my hair and over my eyes. It was almost impossible to get that slime off.

I thought how that is like sin. The Bible says everyone sins: “For all have sinned. This has been already shown. And come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).

Sin is all of the things we do that God says is bad like lying, stealing, hating etc.

Sin (iniquities) is what separates you from God: “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2)

People will try different ways to get rid of the sin by being baptized, religious, and doing good works. Just like it is impossible to get slime off, a person can’t get rid of sin on their own.

The only thing that will clean your sin is Jesus Christ’s blood. “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” (Ephesians 1:7)

The old hymn is absolutely true, “What can wash away by sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”

Today, make sure you have put your faith in Jesus Christ for your sin payment.
