New tradition is emerging

Thursday, December 16, 2021

A new tradition has emerged in recent years that at least half of the readers love and some of you hate. This tradition involves watching something on the TV that repeats itself repeatedly multiple times a day for almost the entire month of November and all of December.

The tradition is watching a romance that takes place in a European kingdom or some small-town America. The romance is never very stressful, the main characters sometimes make cookies, and always ends with a kiss. Also, I forgot to mention added to that it is very non-stressful and not a speck of action. If you ask the fans why they would love it they proclaim, “it’s predictable and nice.”

What I am talking of course is the Hallmark of Christmas. If you are one of the few people that have not been “blessed” with this, it is the programming that comes on Hallmark and Hallmark Mystery channels during the holiday season. Although there are tons of readers that love Hallmark, let’s talk about something more wonderful and predictable than a Hallmark Christmas story. The true Christmas story is:

1. The ultimate love story. Romans 5:8- “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Humanity sinned and rejected God. Still, God shows his love for man in sending his Son and dying for our sins. Do you realize the baby born in Bethlehem is evidence of God’s love?

2. The beautiful predictable story. Titus 1:2- “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” God is truly predictable as he does not lie. Further, when the Baby was born in Bethlehem it had been predicted by all the prophets before. It is ultimate as this is what they all pointed too… The Messiah to come.

3. The Wonderful God story. Luke 2:18- “And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.” Wondered is the idea that they deeply thought about the amazing shepherd’s report. They reported to the people that they had seen angels, the baby, and he was the peace for all mankind.

Regardless if you love Hallmark or not let’s be sure and treasure Jesus is the reason for the season. Treasure his ultimate love, beautiful predictable, and wonderful God story this advent season. Be sure and trust him as your Savoir and attend church. Sunday night at 6 pm will be First Baptist Church’s annual Christmas Eve service.

During it the Christ candle will be lit, and I will share a message called, “The baby in Revelation… the True Meaning of Christmas.” If you do not have a service to attend Christmas Eve you are invited to First Baptist at 6 p.m.
