Two words that are good news: mercy and faithfulness

Thursday, February 10, 2022

Psalm 89:1-2 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.

Here are two words that are good news: mercy and faithfulness.

Mercy is God’s love and kindness, but faithfulness is that God is stable or never fails.

In Psalm 89 God makes two points about those two things. The Psalm talks about David’s covenant or an agreement, God made to have his line on the throne and eventually one would reign in an eternal kingdom (Christ).

There are four points that the Psalmist makes about this.

First, these qualities are known and are tangible or real.

Second, he adds he is going to make faithfulness known or that tells me they are experienced by him.

Third, he says it is built or that means that God’s faithfulness grows in daily blessings.

Fourth, they are in heaven or secure. They don’t change or move around, but they are stable and dependable. It is important to remember God is merciful and faithful. Ultimately, this is discovered in a wonderful relationship with Jesus Christ.

John 3:36-

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

Part of following Christ is understanding that he is returning. The return of Jesus Christ is a Christian’s greatest hope.
