'Fear thou not'

Thursday, March 3, 2022

When I went off to basic training, I was definitely tempted to be scared. It was so bad that a few times I hyper ventilated.

There was one way I overcame it. I knew and quoted Isaiah 41:10 often.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

That verse is a command to not fear. Further, he adds that the reason to not fear is because God is with them. When God is with you, who can be against you? This is the big guy principle. If I go in a battle and look back and see a 100-pound weakling that says, “Don’t be scared”… I am scared.

Whereas if I look back and see the KC Chiefs offensive line, I am bold.

In conclusion, it matters who is in the battle with me. The God of the Universe is all powerful and in control and that is why it is easy to obey not fearful.

Then he follows up a second command with being not dismayed which means bewildered. He says you do not have to be dismayed because the God of the Universe is in relationship with you.

He finishes with two key points that he will strength and uphold us. It is great that in battle and life God holds us up.

This is the verse that helped me walk in boldness in the military basic training.
