Find true fulfillment
Sikeston is home to one of the best outdoor rodeos in America which is August 10-13 (tickets on sale now).
Whenever I think of rodeos, I think of my brother Pax who as soon as he could talk proclaimed he would do rodeo. Not only did my parents have the shock of a toddler proclaiming he would do rodeo, but he also added it would be bull riding.
Although my family loved rodeo, participating in rodeo was not something anyone established as a family value. As the years past, my brother kept his toddler’s goal in mind and when he turned 18, he found a “practice” pen and began his rodeo career.
He only did bulls for a short time and tried other riding events. With a tad of humor, I express that he eventually chose a safer area of rodeo…rodeo clown. The rodeo clown he did was not the entertainment clown, but the protecting the cowboy one.
He just retired a few years ago after doing regional rodeo and presently semi-regularly judges and helps set up rodeo. A lot of people talk about following their dreams, but my brother gave me some insight into how to do it.
First, it requires waiting to achieve your dreams.
Second, if you are going to live your dreams there comes a cost. My brother enjoyed doing rodeo, but he had at least a concussion, multiple injuries (like breaking his tailbone), and did not make lots of money.
Third, make sure you are doing it for the internal satisfaction. When I asked him why he did it, he said it was for the rush.
A lot of people have no fulfillment for what they do and are just going through the motions. With everything that was written about how much my brother loves doing rodeo, it or anything else can not truly fulfill a person. No matter what you do make sure you have true fulfillment which is only found in Jesus Christ.
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17:3)
This Sunday at 6 p.m. will continue the Bible Study of Revelation at First Bapist Church (1101 N. Main St.).
