Trust in Jesus Christ

I grew up canoeing on the Jack Fork and Current River. It was such a joy to canoe with my family and we never tipped over. Since that time, you are expecting me to proclaim I am still a great skillful sailer, but I have gotten worse. The Bible says that the way you go to heaven is by trusting Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:13- “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Last summer I was thankful I was saved when we tipped over in the rapids and almost drowned. In fact, one area I can say if you have a friend that you are praying to get right with Jesus... send them with me to the Curren River.

Canoeing also makes me think of Proverbs 27:12- “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.”

There are many lessons that could be pulled from this verse, but one of them is if you see danger run. This applies to all challenges we have in this life and that would include canoeing with me.

For example, my wife is one smart lady as after canoeing last year, she is not going again. I think my dog even knows the principle behind that verse.

Each time our dog has canoed with me, as soon as the dog can, she jumps out and swims to another canoe. If my dog could talk, she would say, “If you are in canoeing with my master, don’t stay there, but run!!!!”

The final point about canoeing is to tie it down. Last year before we started, I thought, “I am not going to tie down my stuff. We always do that, and nothing will happen.”

That line of thinking is where they probably got the saying, “famous last words of a fool.”

As mentioned, that was the trip we tipped over (wait… that is every trip) and I almost drowned.

The good news is at least later, I found my can of Mr. Dew floating by. This is an important point for us to remember and that is to make sure what matters is tied down or protected.

Jesus told a story about two houses. One was built on rock and one on sand. The one on the rock did not fall when the storms came. The issue is that they were  tied into the Lord by doing what he says.

If you want to stand against trials and challenges, make sure your life is built on Jesus. First, be saved. Second, study the Bible and attend a God-fearing Bible preaching church

Also, if anyone knows the producers for the show Fear Factor... tell them to contact me.
